The nature of the personal information we collect will be dependent upon your chosen level of interaction with RACT, and the degree to which you utilise the broad range of RACT benefits, products and services.
RACT collects personal information when we provide roadside, insurance, travel and other services to customers. The personal information needed to supply such services can include your name, personal and business address, age, sex, employment details, vehicle details, property details, salary and personal finances or insurance history. We may need to collect additional personal information to supply services you have requested.
In most cases we only collect information about you, directly from you, however there are circumstances where this is impractical, e.g. RACT membership purchased as a gift, where multiple persons are linked or related to a particular membership and in cases involving joint insurance of property under an insurance policy issued by RACT Insurance.
RACT also retains transactional histories of your usage of RACT services for audit purposes and to assist in understanding your circumstances, preferences and service needs.

From time to time, RACT may use your information to tell you about other relevant products and services, discounts, special offers, competitions and invitations to special events. However, we clearly recognise the importance of providing you with choices by giving you an easy means to "Opt Out" from receiving these offers.
All you have to do is let us know that you do not want to receive these offers. You can do this by contacting us on 13 27 22 at any time or by visiting an RACT Branch during business hours. Marketing offers that you receive from us will also let you know how to "Opt Out" from receiving further offers.
The RACT does not disclose your personal information to a party outside RACT for the purposes of allowing that party to direct market its products or services to you.
Often the law requires us to provide you with certain information about the product or service that you receive from us. You will continue to receive this type of information from us even if you have decided not to receive information about our products and services generally.
The RACT may disclose your personal information in certain circumstances.
Sometimes we are required or authorised by law to disclose your personal information. For example, we may disclose your personal information to a Court in response to a subpoena or to the Australian Taxation Office following a direction issued under taxation laws.

If you provide us your personal information in relation to obtaining motor vehicle, home insurance or boat insurance we will disclose your personal information to RACT Insurance Pty Ltd who are the issuers of the insurance product.
If you provide us your personal information in relation to obtaining travel insurance, we will disclose your personal information to the issuers of the product.
If you provide us your personal information in relation to obtaining travellers cheques we will disclose your personal information to Travelex Limited, who is the issuers of this product.
RACT may contract with other parties to provide services for us. For example, contractors to provide emergency roadside assistance and towing services to members, printing and mail houses to print and distribute RACT correspondence and material, marketing companies to conduct market research. In some cases we contract other parties to bring you services. For example we contract with insurance companies to offer you some insurance products. In all circumstances where RACT contracts with other parties, we will take reasonable steps to protect the privacy of any of your information disclosed to them.
We will keep information or as long as it is necessary to service your account or to continue to provide products and services you have requested. We will retain information for a reasonable period if you cease to be our customer, unless the law requires us to keep it for longer.
You may request access to any of the personal information we hold about you.
In most cases, a summary of personal information such as your name and address details, contact telephone numbers, policy numbers, policy cover and the products and services you have with us is freely available to you by calling 13 27 22 or visiting us at one of our branches.
For more detailed requests for access to personal information, for example, access to information held in archives, a fee may be charged to cover the cost of retrieval and the supply of this information to you.
All requests for access to personal information will be handled as quickly as possible and we shall endeavour to process any request for access within thirty (30) days of having received the request. Some requests for access may take longer than thirty (30) days to process depending upon the nature of the personal information being sought.
The RACT is not always required to provide you with access to your personal information upon your request.
We may refuse you access to personal information in a number of circumstances such as where the information may relate to existing or anticipated legal proceedings with you, where denying access is required or authorised by law, or where the request for access is regarded as frivolous or vexatious.

A Commonwealth identifier is a Commonwealth Government or Commonwealth Government agency designated identification number such as your Tax File Number (TFN) or Medicare number.
The RACT does not use Commonwealth identifiers as a means of identifying the personal information that we may have collected about you.
Generally it is not possible for us to do business with you unless we have identified you and in some cases, such as when you wish to purchase an Insurance Product with us, the law requires that you identify yourself to us.
