"One day, one night, one community, one fight." - Cancer Council Australia
Relay for Life is a fun and moving overnight experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council's research, prevention and support services. This year, RACT Insurance has had the pleasure of being involved in the North West Relay for Life in Penguin, with another Relay in Hobart still to come.
To kick off this year's events in Penguin, cancer survivors and carers took to the track for the first lap of the relay. This emotional and truly inspiring lap brought many to tears with each step symbolising perseverance, hope and possibility.
RACT Insurance had the privilege of providing a VIP Marquee to the top fundraising team. Our winners, The Flying Emu's, were so excited to spend the weekend wrapped in luxury in their marquees, with leather couches and plush cushions, refreshing fruits and beverages, and colouring books and board games.
The track was buzzing with family friendly entertainment from dusk until dawn including music from talented local acts, foot massages from the girls at The Body Shop, face painting for the little ones, and several local food vendors putting their most tantalising dishes on display.
The community spirit could not have been stronger as individuals from across the region came together to celebrate, remember and fight back. While funds are still coming in until the end of the month, the North-West fundraising total is now more than $145,000.
We are now preparing for Hobart's Relay for Life, taking place over the 17th & 18th March. For information on how you can get involved, click here. If you would like to donate to Team RACT click here.
