Is car safety at the top of your priority list when buying a car?

Choosing a safe car is one, if not the most important factor to consider when buying a car. ANCAP provides consumers with transparent advice and information on choosing the safest car for you.

Since 1993, ANCAP has crash tested over 590 passenger and light commercial vehicles to determine the level of protection it gives an occupant in the most common types of crashes. The Australasian New Car Assessment Program is Australasia's leading independent vehicle safety advocate and gives consumers transparent advice and information to help assist buying a safe car.

Cars are awarded an ANCAP safety rating between between 1 - 5 stars which indicate the level of safety they provide. The more stars, the better the car has performed in the ANCAP assessment. To achieve the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating, the car must be able to achieve the highest standards in all crash tests and feature advanced safety assist technologies (SAT).

RACT recommends that all Tasmanian's consider car safety to be a high priority when looking at buying a new or used car, and with some really simple research, you can choose a car that has a better ANCAP safety rating over others.
