The Tasman Highway between the Tasman Bridge and Brooker Avenue will be closed between 7pm Friday 18 January 2019 and 6am Monday 21 January 2019 for the installation of the Bridge of Remembrance.
During the road closure period,
motorists should expect delays of up to 30 minutes at peak travel times and
should avoid unnecessary travel in the area. Motorists travelling to Hobart
Airport should plan their journey carefully.
RACT Executive General Manager, Membership
and Community, Stacey Pennicott said that the closure of the Tasman Highway,
which is a key route into and through the city, will significantly increase
traffic on alternate routes such as the Brooker Highway and Domain Highway, as
well as onto and off the Glebe and Queens Domain.
“Preparation is key during this period,” Ms
“If you can, avoid travelling during the road
closure period or take an alternate route such as the Bowen Bridge.”
Road users are also reminded to check updated
public transport timetables.
Access to the city centre will remain open.
RACT reminds all road users to stay alert, be
courteous to one another, follow the directions of detour signs and traffic
controllers and to plan ahead if travelling through the area during this time.
