    • Member update - COVID-19 (27 March 2020)

      To all of our valued members and customers,

      The events of the past few weeks have highlighted how quickly our lives can change, and how important it is that we continue to stand together and support each other through these challenging times.

      It has also shown how flexible and resilient we can be in the face of an ever-changing environment.

      Here at RACT we are rising to the challenge. We are on track to have most of our staff working from home by the end of this week, providing assurance to our members that we can continue to assist you with all your service needs via phone or online. We’re open for business with most of our services unaffected. Whether it's roadside or insurance purchases or renewals, updating your details, managing your insurance policies or making a claim, we’re here for you now as we have been for almost 100 years.

      You can trust our roadside assistance services are here to help throughout the state. We know it’s important for you to be able to conduct essential activities such as buying groceries, medications and attending work or school. We’re set up to continue to provide assistance 24/7.  Our car servicing business - AutoServe - is also still operating, and should your battery fail as we head into colder weather, we can help there too.

      The travel industry has been dramatically impacted with the Australian Government bans on travel. Our RACT Travel team is still available to assist you with your needs via phone or online during this time.

      We are also making some changes to our face-to-face insurance assessing services, and working through alternative solutions available to make sure we continue to progress, manage and settle your claim to the high standards you expect. We will be in touch with customers who have future bookings with our assessors to confirm these new arrangements. We also have a range of services online for insurance quoting, policy management and claims lodgment, which you can access 24/7.

      Our Destinations staff are working with our current guests to manage their travel home in light of the recent changes requiring the closure of accommodation from midnight on Wednesday 1 April 2020 to everyone except for permanent residents and essential workers. We are working with our staff in these properties to support them wherever we can.

      Since things are moving quickly, we’ve also set up this designated COVID-19 website page to answer all your questions and explain changes to our procedures across the business. Check in regularly to keep up to date.

      I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been so supportive not only of our business but Tasmanian businesses overall.

      The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is far-reaching, and effects every one of us. We all know someone going through hardship due to the changes being made almost daily, and yet we know that these are essential for the long-term sustainability of Tasmania.

      Together with our members, we have weathered many storms, and we will get through this one, coming out stronger on the other side.

      We continue to be in awe of the resilience of not only our members but all Tasmanians, and we’d like to call out in particular the hard-working essential services staff across the state who are helping to keep our community safe right now.

    Service updates 

    As Tasmania’s largest member organisation, we do a lot of work in the community.

    We remain committed to your health and safety, and that of our staff. We are closely following all health department advice, which indicates that limiting face-to-face interaction, where possible, at this stage will have long-term benefits in stopping the spread of the virus.

    We would like to update you on the proactive measures we are taking in the face of the growing concern around novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

    These include:

    • For visitors to our member and travel branches, we will no longer be providing face-to-face service, but instead redirecting members to our call centre and online channels. Branch staff will still be providing customer service via phone and online.
    • We will not be conducting any driver training lessons/assessments and child restraint fittings until further notice to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our staff.
    • Our community activities in schools and with seniors groups have all been postponed, along with a number of other RACT events.
    • In accordance with government restrictions, our destinations properties will not be taking any new bookings from 28 March 2020 until further notice.  We are committed to offering our guests flexibility and have updated the terms and conditions on our respective property websites.
