South Hobart road closures to make way for new crossings

Roads will be closed in South Hobart between October 2018 and December 2018 for the installation of four raised threshold crossings that will create a continuous step-free path along the south side of Macquarie Street.

The raised threshold crossings will bring the road to the level of the footpath in Anglesea Street, Denison Street, Weld Street and Downie Street, and will provide enhanced wheelchair and pram access.

Motorists will have to reduce their speed when travelling over the raised thresholds, which will improve the safety of all road users and pedestrians.

Road closures of the below streets’ intersections with Macquarie Street will occur between:

Anglesea Street: 8 October – 1 November

Denison Street: 15 October – 9 November

Weld Street: 5 November – 25 November

Downie Street: 12 November – 2 December

It is expected that the impact on parking along Macquarie Street during these times will be kept to a minimum, traffic flow in South Hobart will not change and pedestrian access will remain open.

RACT urges all road users and pedestrians to travel with care and to be mindful of roadworks through South Hobart during the upcoming months.
