Darren Hine

Darren Hine served with distinction in Tasmania Police for over 42 years, culminating in his 14-year tenure as Commissioner of Police and Secretary of the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management until his retirement in October 2022. 

Throughout his comprehensive career, Darren gained valuable experience across Tasmania, serving in General and Traffic duties on the North West Coast, Detective duties in Launceston, and General duties in Hobart. 

His leadership extended to national roles, where he chaired prominent committees including the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency and the National Crime Statistics Unit. At the state level, he contributed his expertise to boards including Crime Stoppers and St John Ambulance Tasmania. 

Darren also served as State Controller under the Emergency Management Act, providing critical leadership during various emergency situations throughout Tasmania. 

His exemplary service has been recognised with several prestigious honours, including appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO), the Public Service Medal (PSM), and the Australian Police Medal (APM).
