The aftermath of the storm
Spring didn’t arrive quietly in Tasmania this year. It blew in with a vengeance, bringing heavy rain along for the ride and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Between August 27 and September 6 2024, Tasmania experienced a severe storm event. As the storm raged across the state, we stood with our members, facing the same challenges - from damaged roofs and fallen trees, to crushed fences and shattered windows. Many locals were left feeling shaken and heartbroken by the devastation.
In the aftermath, our claims lodgement team were inundated with calls. As a result of the peak weekend of wild weather, we received 946 calls to our local claims centre in one day. Trained staff from across the business stepped in to help manage the influx and ensure that helping our members and lodging claims was our top priority.
As of October 3, we've lodged a total of 1,346 claims for our insurance members, with 1,278 related to property damage and 68 to car.
In times like these, insurance is vital in helping you recover and rebuild. Here’s what you need to know to navigate your insurance claims after the storm.
