RACT welcomes TasInsure consultation

RACT welcomes the Tasmanian Government’s acknowledgement that extensive consultation and collaboration is essential to tackle the very real challenge of insurance accessibility and affordability.

RACT CEO Mark Mugnaioni said with over 220,000 members and $50 billion in insured Tasmanian assets, RACT was an essential stakeholder for government in understanding the complexities of the Tasmanian insurance market.

“As Tasmania’s only local and largest provider of general insurance, we are encouraged by this opportunity to work collaboratively with the Tasmanian Government on these matters,” Mr Mugnaioni said.

“As we have said repeatedly, there is no simplistic response or solution to this complex problem and it cannot be solved by government alone.

“As a member-owned mutual, we insure for Tasmanian conditions and risks. Our entire focus is on delivering solutions that keep insurance accessible and aligned to the realities of Tasmania’s weather and other challenges now and into the future.”

Mr Mugnaioni said as part of this commitment, RACT is investing in research and partnerships to reduce Tasmania’s risk exposure and support individuals and communities to be better prepared for natural disasters and severe weather events.

“Investment in individual and community preparedness for the realities of a changing climate is critical to address the issue of insurance accessibility.

“We welcome the opportunity to be part of practical, long-term solutions for Tasmanians facing insurance accessibility issues.”
