Tassie Tales: Dr Margo Adler
New York-born scientist and keen ocean swimmer Dr Margo Adler is the founder of Beaker Street Festival, a two-week-long celebration of science and art held in Nipaluna/Hobart, and at locations around the state, each August. She shares her favourite places in lutruwita/Tasmania, in and out of the water.
Tassie Tales: Vince Trim
The New Zealand-born chef moved to Lutruwita/Tasmania in 2009 and now heads up the kitchens at Mona, a gig that now includes five venues, plus festival events like Dark Mofo’s Winter Feast. A keen mountain bike rider, Vince has since built a life grounded equally in the state’s bush tracks and its kitchens.
Lessons from Tasmania’s most inspiring locals
In a state where community still feels personal and impact often starts with a conversation, Tasmania’s 2026 Australians of the Year reflect the quiet grit and generosity that define this island. From hospital rescue scenes and school lunchrooms to classrooms and cafe kitchens, their work reaches into everyday lives, proving that meaningful change does not need a megaphone, just commitment.
