Our 2019 Member Survey, which received 5500 responses, asked members to rate their worst roads in Tasmania. Overall they rated our roads 6/10, compared to 4.8/10 two years ago.
Coming in as the worst road in the state is the Tasman Highway on the east coast, followed by the Midland Highway and Bass Highway.
Concerns were raised for the Tasman Highway’s Great Eastern Drive, particularly between Swansea and Bicheno, and the Hobart to Sorell corridor. Roadworks and more passing lanes were the main concerns from members when it came to the Midland Highway. The Wynyard to Marrawah corridor on the Bass Highway - particularly west of Smithton - raised the most issues for members. We have been lobbying all levels of government to address this stretch of road for some time.
The Arthur Highway came in at number four for members, with particular concerns between Dunalley and Port Arthur as well as Nubeena Road.
When looking region by region, north-west members had the highest regard for the state’s roads in the 2019 survey, rating them 6.54/10 (up from 5.27 in 2017), while members in the south rated them 5.76/10 (up from 4.68). Northern members rated them 6.26/10 in 2019 (up from 5.01 in 2017).
