Online Booking FAQs
What locations are available to book online?
Our lessons start and finish at our Driving Schools in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, Eastlands and Kingston. You can book lessons online for any of these locations.
Why am I recieving an error message, or am unable to proceed to the next section?
When completing a booking enquiry, be sure to check that all fields are filled out and drop downs are selected or you may be shown an error or incorrect search result.
If you do run into an issue or would prefer to complete your transaction over the phone, call us on 13 27 22.What is my username?
Your username is your email address.
What do I do if I have forgotten my password?
You can reset your password through the online portal by selecting the reset button on the log in page. A temporary password goes to your email address for you to use. You can also call us on 13 27 22 and we can help.
I have had lessons with RACT and the online portal is not letting me register. How do I find out what my login details are?
To try to log in, please enter your email address and click the 'reset your password' link. This will send you a temporary password which you can change when you first sign in. If you are still having issues, please give our Driver Training team a call on 13 27 22.
How do I check how much credit I have on my account?
You can see your credit and prepaid packages in the top right-hand corner of your account. A record of your transaction history is also available in 'transactions' within the portal.
How do I cancel a lesson and what is the cancellation policy?
We need at least 24 hours' notice for you to receive a credit for your lessons. You can cancel your lesson in the appointments tab in the booking portal or by calling us on 13 27 22.
How do I change a lesson booking?
To change a lesson online you will need to cancel and rebook your lesson. Cancelling your lesson will create a credit that you can use to rebook online. Or you can call our Driver Training team on 13 27 22 to change your booking time.
What services can I book online?
You can make a booking for any standard driving lesson, P1 assessment and P1 assessment with familiarisation (a pre-test warm-up) online.
Can I buy a lessons package online?
Yes, and this is the way to go to save money. We have packages of three, five, seven and ten lessons available to buy here. These go on to your account as prepaid lesson credit.
How do I update my address?
You can update your address via the profile tab within the booking portal. You can update all your contact details here except for your name. To change your name please call us on 13 27 22.
The online portal is not accepting my address, how do I make a booking?
All lessons leave from our driving school locations, so only local postcodes work online. If you live outside these areas but would like to book lessons, please call us on 13 27 22.
How do I pay for my lesson online?
The online booking portal takes Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cards.
I tried to process a payment online with a card but it has not worked. What should I do?
If your payment isn’t working, the first thing to check is that it is either a Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card. If you still have issues, please call us on 13 27 22.
I can't see my package credit on my account when I buy a package in-store?
If you can't see your available credit, please give our Driver Training team a call to follow up.
Lesson FAQs
How many lessons will I need?
That will depend on where you are in your journey and how much practice you can do outside of lessons. It's best to book a lesson and our instructor can get to know you and your skills better. From there, we can work on a plan to get you prepared for your licence.
What do I need to bring to my lessons?
Please come to all lessons and assessments with the following:
A valid driver’s license permit
Your logbook (digital or paper based)
Comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear
Please also make sure that you’re well rested and are in a fit state to drive.
What are my requirements as a learner?
In recent years, there have been changes to how you get your licence in Tasmania. This includes peer passenger restrictions, speed changes and mandatory night hours. To read about the most recent changes and how they may impact you, visit the Plates Plus website.
How can I pay for my booking?
You can pay with your Visa or Mastercard. Pay through our easy online booking platform, call us on 13 27 22, or at one of our store locations.
Are manual lessons and assessments available at every location?
Our Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie locations offer manual and automatic lessons and P1s assessments.
Our Eastlands location offers automatic lessons and P1 assessments. Our Kingston location only offers automatic lessons at this time.
If a student is under the influence or unfit to drive, do instructors have the abilty to cancel or reshedule a lesson?
Yes.
Please do not arrive for your driving lessons while you are under the influence of substances that could impair your ability to drive. Our instructors will refuse or terminate a lesson if they do not feel safe. A commentary drive may be offered as an alternative, if appropriate.Please ensure that you're well rested when arriving for all your driving lessons, this will make your learning experience better and increases safety for everyone.
How does RACT ensure a safety-first culture?
When it comes to teaching young Tasmanians to drive, safety is our top priority. We work hard to make sure we have the best and safest learning experience possible.
RACT is currently rolling out in-car cameras in our drive school fleet, including GPS tracking.
Our experienced driving instructors are trained to a very high level and:
Are required to hold or acquire a Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics before they can conduct lessons.
Undergo specialised training to support students with diverse needs and vulnerabilities. We believe RACT instructors are unique in Tasmania in undergoing this training.
Undergo a police background check and require Working with Vulnerable People verification and undertake annual mandatory child safeguard training.
Our driving instructors, like all RACT staff, are required to adhere to our Code of Conduct and Workplace Behaviour Policy.
What is RACT doing to keep the vehicles safe for me?
Our modern drive school fleet is maintained so that no vehicles are more than three years old and our fleet cars:
Are serviced every 10,000km by approved AIS (Approved Inspection Station) mechanic.
Undergo a Planned General Inspection (PGI) every two months to ensure their roadworthiness and that the dual controls operate properly.
Are required to pass a Public Vehicle Inspection test every 12 months.

Can I use my own vehicle for lessons and assessments?
No. We use our dual controlled cars for all lessons and assessments. This allows us all to remain safe while you’re learning on the roads.
P1 Assessment FAQs
If I've got my hours, am I right to book my assessment?
At some stage during your Ls journey, you may be required to complete the Plates Plus Hazard Perception Test, an online assessment featuring a series of videos and multiple-choice questions. Before booking your Ps assessment, it's best to check if this test is a mandatory requirement for you.

The P1 assessment will take between 35 and 45 minutes.
How is the assessment conducted?
All P1 assessments are conducted in our driver training cars. It's a requirement for us to do the assessment in a vehicle that has an in-car camera. Prior to doing an assessment, you'll need to read, understand and sign a consent form.

If there is space available, you can book in a lesson before your P1 assessment. This will need to be with an educator that will not be conducting the assessment. If you have any questions or wish to check who best to book in with, please give us a call on 13 27 22.
What do I need to bring with me to the P1 assessment?
You'll need to bring your current driver's licence and logbook (either a physical book or access to the Plates Plus app on a charged device that has access to mobile data).
You must have all of your required hours recorded.
Please note that failing to present a completed logbook or the logbook app to an assessment will result in an automatic failure.What happens when I pass my P1 assessment?
When you pass, we'll give you some paperwork to take to Service Tasmania. They'll upgrade your licence with a cost and then you can begin your solo driving journey!
Can you tell me more about the familiarisation package?
The familiarisation is not a lesson. It's an opportunity to get used to the car you'll be doing your assessment in.
All assessments are done in our dual-controlled driver training cars, so if you think a chance to warm up with one would help, we recommend booking a familiarisation.
What would help me get my P1s?
Taking professional driving lessons is a good way to understand what's needed to get your licence. You can book your lessons online or give us a call.
You need to complete all of the tasks in your logbook and practice, practice, practice.
I'm not feeling confident, can I book a second assessment just in case?
No, as learner drivers are only allowed to have one Ps assessment booked with any provider, at any one time.

Can I sit my assessment with you more than once?
Absolutely. If you are unsuccessful in your assessment, please speak with our team who will book you in for a later date.
When is the earliest I can make a booking for my assessment?
No earlier than three months before the earliest test date stipulated on your licence.
If I do my Ps assessment in an automatic vehicle, can I later drive a manual?
No, if you do your Ps test in an automatic you will have an 'automatic vehicle use only' restriction placed on your licence.
