Expert insurance advice welcomed

RACT welcomes the appointment of John Trowbridge to support the Tasmanian Government’s work on insurance affordability.

Group CEO, Mark Mugnaioni, said RACT, in our role as Tasmania’s largest household insurer, deeply understands community concerns about insurance costs because we’re supporting members on these issues every day.

“As Tasmania’s only locally member owned insurer, with 223,000 members, RACT has existing local expertise delivering outcomes to Tasmanians,” Mr Mugnaioni said.

“We continue to hold serious concerns that establishing a state-owned insurance company is the wrong answer to this very real problem, and fails to address underlying cost drivers.

“The forces driving premiums are known, including increasing natural disasters and construction costs, and government policy settings. That’s why any response must be evidence-based and guided by experts.”

“It is critical to address these underlying issues to avoid simply transferring risk and costs to the Tasmanian taxpayer.”

“RACT remains committed to being part of the solution and looks forward to working with Mr Trowbridge as this important work progresses.

“We welcome the opportunity to share our local insights and unique understanding of Tasmanian risk to help shape effective policy responses.”
