Your guide to Seniors Month with RACT

October is Seniors Month in Tasmania, and we’re celebrating with a series of free road safety sessions designed to help experienced drivers stay safe, confident and mobile.

Earlier this year, RACT partnered with Council on the Ageing (COTA) Tasmania, strengthening our shared commitment to supporting older Tasmanians to stay connected and engaged in their communities.

The partnership recognises the important role older Tasmanians play in our communities, and builds on the work already underway through our Community Education team, which delivers road safety and awareness sessions to experienced drivers across the state.

As part of Seniors Month, we’re taking our popular Years Ahead programs on the road, with free sessions at Libraries Tasmania locations and selected RACT stores.

Brush up on the road rules at your local library

Confused about road rules? Unpack five commonly misunderstood road rules with us. Misunderstood Road Rules is designed to refresh your understanding about road rules that are commonly misunderstood by Tasmanian drivers. Would you be surprised to hear that road rules for roundabouts, intersections and indicating make the list?

This course is suited for experienced drivers who would like a refresher course on basic road rules, or for drivers not as confident on the roads.

We’re also opening the doors at five RACT stores for our Years Ahead: Road Safety program.

These free, practical one-hour sessions take a broader look at staying safe and mobile as we get older. We’ll talk about road safety for drivers and pedestrians, road rules, choosing a safe car, staying fit to drive, the potential impact of health and medications on driving, and ways to assess your own driving ability.

There’ll also be light refreshments and a goodie bag to take home.

Staying connected, confident and mobile

For many Tasmanians, RACT has been part of life for decades. Our partnership with COTA Tasmania gives us another opportunity to listen to and learn from older Tasmanians, while sharing practical information that can help people stay safely connected to the people, places and communities that matter to them.

Whether you’ve been driving for decades or simply want to refresh your road knowledge, we’d love to see you at a Seniors Month session near you.

All sessions are free, but places are limited, so bookings are encouraged.
