The TasInsure Implementation Pathway released today is a positive step towards improving insurance affordability.
RACT Group CEO, Mark Mugnaioni, said reducing risk and making communities more resilient to natural disasters were critical to addressing the underlying factors driving insurance costs.
“It is pleasing to see the Tasmanian Government’s recognition of the critical link between making communities more resilient and keeping insurance affordable and accessible,” Mr Mugnaioni said.
“The Implementation Pathway released today demonstrates that the government has listened and is prepared to work in partnership with industry to implement practical and effective solutions to insurance challenges.
“The critical next step is to ensure that the broad policy principles outlined in the Implementation Pathway are reflected in deep collaboration with industry experts.
“It is particularly encouraging that the government has adopted a partnership-first approach, with direct government intervention reserved only where private market solutions are not viable.”
Mr Mugnaioni said RACT championed resilience because it was an issue that RACT members and the broader community cared deeply about.
Recent research found 76 per cent of RACT members believed more needed to be done to protect communities from future natural disasters.
“As Tasmania’s largest member-owned organisation, RACT has demonstrated clear and consistent advocacy on this issue and it is a win for members to see this clear policy intent from government.
“We look forward to seeing more detail on the government’s plans in the weeks and months ahead.”
